Planning your travel to Argentina: Patagonia (Calafate-Chalten-Ushuaia)

Translations: es

Introduction

Argentina is a very big country in the southern portion of South America. The country is spanish-speaking nation and most of the people in the streets don't know English (at least not like in India or like in some Caribbean countries). Remember that Argentina summer is from December to February and winter from June to August.

This country is a megadiverse country hosting one of the greatest ecosystem varieties in the world. So before travel, you need to plan where and what you will do.

Unless you have three or more months, it's impossible to visit the most beautiful cities and national parks. In this article, we will show the most beautiful regions to visit. Since it's very common to arrive at Ezeiza (near capital federal), we will cover what to do in Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires (CABA) in this article.

If you never visited CABA you must do it! So please read What to do in Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Patagonia: Must do on first time

Patagonia is a sparsely populated region located at the southern of Argentina (Patagonia also covers Chile). In this region, the overall climate is cool and dry and in summer temperatures are great, but you will miss snow! It's also recommended to visit the Patagonia region in summer and also in winter.

If you are short in time, we recommend visiting Calafate and Ushuaia or just Bariloche (and cities close to Bariloche).

Calafate

The city is very small and very safe. The most expensive hotel is outside the city and has the greatest views, however, we prefer to book a hotel or [airbnb aparment/hostel](es.airbnb.com/c/leonardol151) in the city.

Very close to the city you have Lago Argentino and it's recommended to visit Laguna Nimez. You don't need an excursion to visit lago Argentino unless you are in a Hotel far from the city, but you can take a taxi without any problems.

Here is a photo of Laguna Nimez on February:

Perito Moreno Glacier is located about 50 miles from El calafate. The Glacier is absolutely beautiful and a great experience, probably the best experience yo can get from Argentina. We recommend booking your excursion with some time in advance, especially in summer. If you rent a car be very carefull with the wind at the route, and it makes it very dangerous to hike trails or climb mountains.

Chalten

This is a must do for trekkers in summer. When you arrive in the city to get the tourism information map, there are many walks options. If you are in a good fit we recommend to visit Monte Fitz Roy taking the most popular walk called "Laguna Torre".
